Well, it's been a long time coming, and everything happened very quickly in the end, but it did happen. I left my previous employer, the Robert Gordon University in Aberdeen, Scotland, and I am now working (well, I will be as of tomorrow) for a small company in Toronto, doing stuff with Perl, C, and Java. I still have many friends back in Aberdeen, and my partner is still living there (thank goodness for Skype) and am continuing to do occasional academic things in the evenings and weekends, but I do not regret the move at all.
